New Energy engineers have successfully designed, built, and durability tested the Company’s first prototype MotionPower™-Auto system, able to generate electricity from the excess kinetic energy of cars and light trucks in motion.As vehicles drive over our MotionPower™-Auto system, a series of mechanical treadles are depressed, converting some of the car’s excess rolling kinetic energy into sustainable electrical while helping to slow the vehicle down.

Our MotionPower™-Auto car and light truck energy harvester has been designed and prototyped as an ultra-low profile, modular device which can be easily customized to varying lengths based on site requirements.
Once optimized, MotionPower™-Auto systems could be installed in high-traffic areas with slowing traffic, such as:
- Exit ramps
- Toll booths
- Traffic intersections
- Rest areas
- Travel plazas
- Restaurant and bank drive-thrus
- Border crossings, and
- Neighborhoods with traffic calming zones.
New Energy has filed nine patents with the United States Patent and Trademark Office and two international patents for the protection of intellectual property associated with using the motion of vehicles to generate electricity, the fastest growing form of end-use energy in the world.
MotionPower™-Auto: Sustainable Electricity from Cars in Motion
New Energy’s first MotionPower™-Auto prototype has been rigorously tested in the lab and undergone early field tests in real world settings. Engineers are now actively working to further optimize the efficiency of the MotionPower™ device in our second-phase product development plan.
- Is able to adapt to the unique characteristics of different vehicles in order to optimize the amount of energy captured;
- Will reduce or avoid potentially undesirable effects on safety, comfort of vehicle occupants, and the stability of cargo;
- Can be easily manufactured and installed, with low operating costs and a simple and reliable mechanical configuration that is easy to maintain; and
- Is resistant to damage from vehicles, road debris or weather.
Among specific advancements to the Company’s next generation MotionPower™ technology for generating electricity from the motion of cars and light trucks, currently under development, are:
- Increasing the amount of electricity generated from each pass of a vehicle by making use of multiple input power mechanisms, and a novel storage system which will help to better utilize the power of each wheel’s weight, capture it and retain it for conversion to electrical energy;
- Improving durability of the system through design modifications and materials selection;
- New design features, mimicking the appearance and feel of a conventional speed bump/hump;
- Reducing the length of the system to 12” from 12’ by eliminating the existing elevated ramp structures;
- Minimizing the vertical height of the system in order to calm potential driver disruption; and reduce the rolling resistance of the device; and
- Repositioning moving parts into a single housing unit, allowing for quicker, easier, and lower-cost maintenance.
